Class Description:
Art One is a foundations course where students will explore the basics to both the technical and aesthetic skills for art making. In this class, students will learn how to make art using the elements and principles of design, including line, shape, value, pattern, texture, etc. Students will also be introduced to a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and others.
This school year students will cover the Fine Arts Standards:
Learn the essential skills and technical demands unique to the visual arts.
Use the visual arts to express ideas.
Integrate understanding of visual art by seeking connections between content areas.
Demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics of the creative process.
Observe, discuss, analyze and make critical judgments about artistic works.
Show increased awareness of diverse peoples and cultures through visual and performing arts.
Demonstrate knowledge about how technology and invention have historically influenced artists and offered new possibilities for expression.
Contribute to communities by sharing expertise in the visual arts and by participation in the activities of cultural institutions.
MATERIALS AND COSTS
All students enrolled in Art 1 are expected to pay a $30 class fee which covers many materials I will supply throughout the year.
In addition, students are expected to have their own: drawing notebook with blank pages, a pencil and an eraser. Optional personal materials include rulers, color pencils, markers, or watercolors.
NOTE: If students lose or damage materials I supply to them for different assignments, they will be required to pay $1 to replace that material.
